Shout! Factory Mask

Shout! Factory Mask (2007)
Swamp Thing TV series DVD Volume 1 & 2 Promo
To promote the Swamp Thing TV series DVD release, Shout Factory (music and home video company) created these promo masks to distribute at the 2007 San Diego Comic Con.

Some years back I was cruising around Mike Sterling’s website, Progressive Ruin, as I often do (you should too) and I came across a post where Mike mentioned this Swamp Thing promotional mask. If I remember correctly, one of his friends kindly picked it up at San Diego comic con for him. I love ephemera like this and wanted to order one. I emailed Shout Factory asking if they had any extra masks, they responded simply with, “no”. No luck, no masks, I waited for a few years for one to pop up on my go-to collectibles websites. Well, I finally tracked one down and it’s signed by the great Len Wein and Dick Durock (the only man to ever play live action Swamp Thing). I am excited to have this great item displayed amongst my collection and happy that the previous owner didn’t punch out the eye holes.

The back of the mask gives you a rundown of the releases along with the tag line, “there’s no telling how far a good wrath will take Swamp Thing”. Swamp Thing’s wrath is summarized quite well in DC Comics: A Celebration of the World’s Favorite Comic Book Heroes with this quote, “he (Arcane) and Swamp Thing ultimately seemed no more than feuding neighbors, explicably obliged to annoy each other on a weekly basis”. I eventually plan to re-watch and review each episode which I am very excited to do. As bad as the show can be at time, I still love it.
