Dr Anton Arcane Custom Figures

Custom toy maker, @dr.antonarcane makes extremely fun and creative figures. I purchased a Swamp Thing & Arcane figure from him in the past but this new neon/glow in the dark figure is ELECTRIC!

@dr.antonarcane stays true to the figure style by pairing it with artwork inspired by Swamp Thing #57 “Mysteries in Space” – see below. The figure that inspired this custom was the Kenner Bio-Glow Swamp Thing. Both the Kenner figure & Swamp Thing #57 depict the character with a cactus body. The two great depictions merge together to make this fantastic, inspired custom action figure!

DC Direct Heroes of the DC Universe Bust

DC Direct: Heroes of the DC Universe Bust – Series 2, 2011
Statue: s12, Box: s11, NOV110245

Around the time the New 52 was kicking off in 2011, this beautiful statue of our beloved Muck Monster was released. I made sure to pick one up around the time of its release, anticipating that it’d sell like hot cakes. It’s one of my favorite statues.

Statue Detail Images:
Swamp Thing’s abs are nuts! I love the details throughout, the wildlife clinging to him look great. I often think of this statue as the Ron Perlman/Party Swamp Thing.

Abby Arcane FINALLY has an Action Figure

This week, Figures Toy Company finally released their Abby Cable figure. It’s part of their DC Comics Retro 8 inch Action Figure Series. I’m pleased as punch because it’s the first time an officially licensed Abby action figure has been released. It’s the perfect match for the Swamp Thing Mego-style figure that was released last year.

80680EA4-1967-4A39-87E0-198668442ED5

Abby is one of my favorite characters within Swamp Thing canon. She is the backbone of the title character, and the glue that binds numerous story arcs throughout Swamp Thing’s history. Amongst other things, Abby anchored Swamp Thing when his humanity and spirit were adrift. She suffered through-what seemed like-endless struggles, trauma and loss since she appeared in Swamp Thing #3 (1973). Abby is a reminder (to me) of how humanity can suffer and endure, living within the world of monsters. There are so many reasons to love the character. I’m really psyched to add this Abby figure to my collection.

And, of course Swamp Thing made his way onto the packaging! The artwork on the packaging is great, and economical. Figures Toy Co used the same artwork that was used on their Swamp Thing figure, but they reconfigured it a bit. On this packaging Abby takes center stage while Swampy makes for great wallpaper.

Back of packaging detail: I don’t understand the hyphenated name below. Abby didn’t keep the Arcane name after marrying Cable.

Now that Abby finally has a figure, it’d be so cool to see a Floronic Man and Chester Williams in Mego style. It would be a dream come true to have a two in one figure set of Rose & Thorn, one of my other favorite DC characters.

Swamp Thing Mego Style

DC Comics Retro 8” Action Figure Series – 2020

In November of 2020, Figures Toy Company released this fantastic Mego inspired Swamp Thing figure. I picked one up when they became available and am finally getting around to sharing it on the site. Figures Toy Company did a terrific job with the figure and packaging. The design of the figure is inspired by Bissette/Totleben’s Swamp Thing, as indicated by the “1987” on the back of the packaging (see images below). The packaging design also feels of the era, with artwork inspired by Bissette/Totleben. Although, the packaging illustrations look more friendly/whimsical like the artwork used on Swamp Thing collectibles in the early 90s.

The onesie suit looks great and is a fun way to show off Swampy’s texture in a simple way. The Rick Flair looking green fur is a bit cheesy but I really like it.

The details in the head looks great! The figure is detailed and simplified in all the right places. Continue reading “Swamp Thing Mego Style”

The Kenner Figures

Kenner Swamp Thing Action Figures, 1990-1991

Like so many of the fun, memorable Swamp Thing collectibles from the early ’90s, this toy line was released in conjunction with the short lived Swamp Thing animated TV series. For better or for worse, the five episode cartoon ,much like the recent series of 2019, wasn’t given the chance to spread its wings. But, that didn’t deter the powers that be. Thanks to all the fine folks at DC, LCA, Kenner, Noteworthy, etc. for marketing the living hell out of it. The toy line outshined the animated series so much so that many fans don’t realize there was a Swamp Thing cartoon. I’ve met a number of fellow Swampy fans who enjoy sharing fond memories of growing up with these action figures. In this post I’ll be sharing the action figures. Next post, I’ll share all of the vehicles!

Snare Arm Swamp ThingStarting things off, the original Swampy action figure! Sure it only comes with that weird looking trap you’re not sure what to do with, but it’s the fun figure we’ve grown to love. I consider it to be the classic Swamp Thing figure. It was rumored, and since proven wrong, that this figure was intended to be part of the Super Powers action figure toy line.

Bio-Glow Swamp Thing – The figure wielding the most weapons is Bio-Glow Swampy. Don’t be fooled by his charming glow in the dark features, this figure is equipped with an axe and mace. I really like this design. The cactus texture is a really fun addition.

Snap Up Swamp ThingSnap Up Swampy is a fun concept but rarely would Swamp Thing need to play dead or need to hide as a pile of logs. When not playing dead, Snap Up Swamp Thing enjoys log bazookas. Continue reading “The Kenner Figures”

A few months ago, Pixel Elixir asked me to send them ideas for pins relating to The Return of Swamp Thing film. I provided a laundry list of fun scenes and characters from the film that I thought would make for fun enamel pins. They decided upon the classic Swamp Thing scene where he gives the kids a thumbs-up. I’m extremely proud that they asked for my thoughts and am even more excited to have received the pin and print last week.

Battle for the Bayou

Swamp Thing Battle for the Bayou Board Game – 1991

Last weekend I had company over and decided to unleash the Swamp Thing board game. It’s always a blast to play and easy to learn. Along with a slew of Swampy merchandise, the game was released in conjunction with the short-lived Swamp Thing animated series in 1991 by Rose Art. Gameplay is easy enough, allowing two to four players, ages seven and up.

85D2FB45-6A7E-47DD-A193-0313A9A1A274

Players take turns advancing their game pieces, utilizing “Swamp Thing” and “Hero Card” cards as they make their way toward the evil Anton Arcane. The first player to reach Arcane, and defeat him, wins!

There are various pitfalls and obstacles throughout the board. Arcnae’s Un-Men are dead set on stopping you and your opponents from defeating Arcane. It’s a simple and fun game Swampy fans are sure to enjoy.

Manusia Rawa #1 – Indonesian trading cards

A5FD85F3-9CB9-4332-B49E-DCE666A46E94

I was lucky enough to acquire another sheet of uncut Indonesian trading cards and am thrilled to share it with you. This sheet depicts the first installment of the narrative that continues in “Manusia Rawa” #2, which I posted a little while back. To get caught up, visit my previous post here. The storyline is poor, but it’s exciting to see young Jim (from the TV show) again. Manusia Rawa, sheets #1 & #2, seem to help explain Jim’s unfortunate departure from the television series.

I’ve provided a rough translation of the trading cards below. A very special think you goes out to Rich Handley for his help in translating. Throughout the sheet, Swamp Thing is referred to as Amos. I’m assuming “Amos” is being used in place of “Alec”.

The Cast:
Thub – Henchman
Jim – Kidnapped boy
Simon – Villain
Jane – Jim’s Mother
Jevry – Good Guy
Swamp Thing/Amos – duh

1.
Swamp Thing: “Manusia Rawa” translates to “Swamp Man”

2.
Jevry: “Let’s go now”
Thub: “OK”
